SainSmart PLA Filament

Taking the trial and error out of shopping

SainSmart PLA Filament

Postby chickan » Thu Feb 28, 2013 6:00 pm

I've been impressed with the SainSmart PLA filament from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=sainsmart+1.75mm or http://www.sainsmart.com. It is certainly not the cheapest out there at $50/kg, but the print quality is great and I have not had any issues with it jamming. I have printed a roll of Green and a roll of Red, no issues on either.

The green is a nice light green, see here: http://www.thingiverse.com/derivative:65095. The red is a deep red, much better red than the ABS I purchased from Leapfrog which was closer to orange, see here: http://www.thingiverse.com/derivative:65149

Hey thanks for sharing.
One question: Did you have problems with the leapfrog PLA before?

I was unaware that Leapfrog had started selling PLA. When I purchased mine back in January they were not selling it yet. I've had good luck with both Sainsmart and Protoparadigm, so much so that I made a filament support for them: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:104983 It came out pretty good and supports both rolls nicely.

I'll have to buy some Leapfrog PLA to try it out.
